J. M. Coffey Tutoring was started in the summer of 1987 to serve the educational needs of college and university students in the Washington D.C. area. We curently serve students attending American University, Catholic University, George Mason University, Georgetown University, George Washington University, Marymount University, The University of Mary Washington, Towson State and The University of Maryland.
Mike Coffey, owner and president of the company, holds degrees in both the fields of chemistry and biology. He has performed biochemical research in the field of cryo-enzymology in conjunction with Dr. J. P. Weber formerly of George Mason University.
Mike Coffey gained experience teaching at the university level while employed by the chemistry department of George Mason University from 1988-1997. His teaching duties included first year general chemistry, second year organic chemistry, as well as elementary quantitative analysis laboratory and instrumental laboratory.
While at George Mason Mike Coffey served as co-advisor for the student organized, department sponsored, nationally affiliated chemistry club. He also organized, and for two years supervised, the chemistry department's student staffed free tutoring center.
Mike Coffey is now solely involved in providing tutoring services and pre-medical advising services through his company throughout the Washington Metropolitan area.
